Welcome to Summerbridge Community Primary School

Summerbridge is a small village in the heart of Nidderdale. Nidderdale is designated as an 'Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. This traditional village school, which celebrated its centenary in 1994, is an integral part of village life and a focal point within the community. It primarily serves the villages of Summerbridge, Dacre Banks, Low Laithe, Smelthouses, Wilsill, New York and Hartwith.

Our school's ethos has developed and evolved historically over time and is based upon the simple yet effective beliefs that are: "Keep me safe, make me happy, help me learn".

The school is well supported locally and attracts children who also live outside the official catchment area. It is on the local bus route although many of our children walk to school. Safety and safeguarding is our absolute priority in school and we adhere to the guidance set out in the document below:

Keeping Children Safe in Education

The school building is situated in attractive gardens and has grassed areas and a substantial rear playground for the children. The building has a large central hall, three classrooms, a library, study room, staff room, office, headteacher's office and a two store rooms.  School lunches are cooked in the well equipped kitchen.

We are extremely proud of all that goes on here. We hope you enjoy your visit to our website and capture what our school and staff have to offer. The children at Summerbridge are supported in their learning by dedicated staff, governors and parents.

On our website there are details of school events, visits and activities that serve to enliven the curriculum, alongside our extra curricular activities that the children can participate in. Our monthly newsletters provide you with a fuller picture of life at Summerbridge School, these can be found in the News section of this website.

Darley & Summerbridge Community Primary Schools

Our school is part of a federation with Darley Community Primary School and the two schools work closely together.  Nick Coates is the executive head of both schools and spends equal amounts of time in both during the week. 'Darley and Summerbridge Community Primary Schools provide a secure and safe learning environment where everyone is valued and work together in partnership.  All children are supported and encouraged to grow in confidence in order to achieve their true potential.'

Please read our latest Section 5 OSFTED Inspection report dated June 2018 by clicking on the logo link on the right.

Although our school was judged to require improvement, Leadership & Management were judged to be good.  It is particularly pleasing that both reading and writing were judged to have a high profile in our school and that pupils are given opportunities to practise these skills in a variety of contexts.  Our school was also commended on the excellent behaviour of all the pupils and that our school works hard to promote their social, moral, cultural and spiritual development to a very high standard. The outcome of the inspection may be disappointing, however it has allowed a clear mandate to drive rapid improvement and this is a goal that all the Summerbridge team are committed to achieving.
